If you are careful gluing up your strips, the sanding can go quite quickly. My process here was:
- Scrape the Glue
- Rough Sand with 60 grit using a random orbital
- Roughly fair with a long board
- Scrape down high spots
- Do a more complete fairing with the long board
- Sand again with 60 grit to get a uniform surface
- Move up to 80 grit
- Random orbital
- Hand sand
- Move up to 100 grit
- Long Board
- Random Orbital
- Hand sand
- Wet-down the wood
- Move up to 120 grit
- Random Orbital
- Hand Sand
I vary this process depending on the boat and what I feel like.
