In this episode after messing up some strips in the previous episode, I redo milling the strips for the body of the kayak. I cut down a 2x12 into 3/4" blanks and then rip those blanks into 3/16" strips. In the middle I take a break and talk about my table saw setup.

Nick is embarking on a new strip built kayak build and took the first step of acquiring some beautiful Western red cedar lumber, including a long 2x10 board and some 2x6 boards of varying grades and nice grain patterns. His plan is to cut these into blanks, rip them into thin vertical-grain strips, then decide on the optimal layout to showcase the wood's beauty in the kayak. The initial inertia of starting a big project is always difficult, but now the materials are purchased so Nick is excited to start ripping lumber and kicking off the kayak build.Building the microBootlegger Sport Video Series

Free Publicity from A&E Network
Last fall a 10 person camera crew spent all day here at my shop filming a segment for the A&E Network. I had wondered for a while what happened with all that effort. Recently someone on FaceBook messaged me saying he had seen something about me. Well, the above 30 second sequence is the result of 10 to 12 peoples working all day, plus how ever long it took them to prepare before and then edit afterwards.
Scouting the Shores of Schoodic
Gerry and I headed up to Maine last weekend to scout out the locations for the Schoodic Sea Kayak Retreat.
It was Gerry's first time in the area. He and his wife are now looking into buying a place up there. There are loads of great paddling venues suitable to all skill levels of kayakers.
