This is the first kayak i've built, in fact it is the first kayak i have owned. It took a little more money and a lot more time to build it then i expected, but im delighted to say it was worth every penny and minute.
The petrel is made of western red cedar which has been stained light red mahogany and the accent strips are ash.
I love the look of the Petrel and its great fun to paddle as well Nick Schade did a great job designing this kayak.
This picture was taken just before the petrel was launched for the first time. Cooscroom harbour is typical of of the rocky inlets and cobhs that dot the penisulas of kerry and cork that jut out into the atlantic. A wonderful playground for a sea kayak.
